INSTITUTIONALISED SEXISM IN THE MUSIC INDUSTRY: ARE WE TAKING THE RIGHT APPROACH?

The Voice of London is a student run website targeting young Londoners. As part of my Final Journalism Project module at university, I helped run the entertainment section and acted as deputy editor. Throughout this time, I also wrote various articles, including this long feature piece. It explores women in music with an interview from a former BRIT school student, who is now pursuing a career in the music industry.

AN UNEASY CONSCIENCE AND A PLATE OF CHICKEN DRUMSTICKS

I wrote this piece whilst studying specialist journalism in the form of literary and long form writing. I wanted to write about a subject which has caused great debate in order to maintain interest. Additionally, this article was unlike anything I have written before since it was the first time I undertook participatory observation. Essentially, the idea was a 'month of vegan', attempting veganism myself and thoroughly researching into the subject.

THE SNARL BENEATH THE SMILE FEATURES

For my Final Journalism Project module, I chose to produce a print feature for a magazine. My preferred publication, which the piece was aimed at was Stylist magazine. Due to having such a long word count, I divided the feature into three sections, with the idea of them flowing into one another.

With the World Irish Dancing Championships approaching, I chose to look beyond the joys of Riverdance and into the competitive – and surprisingly cut-throat – world of dance.

THE EVOLUTION OF THE ARTIST

This long form feature was written for CLASH magazine, which was a magazine prototype produced in my second year of university. It covers an in-depth interview with a folk singer-songwriter and explores what it's like to try to make a career as an independent artist today.
